Planting for Futures

Ninety percent of Ugandans do some form of farming to earn or supplement their income, so teaching climate-wise, more effective farming techniques will make a lasting impact on lives. HEED is utilizing our land to create a demonstration farm for the community and the students as well as generate income for programs. Our new Program Manager, Julius, is so committed to seeing the HEED Farm thrive. Since our budget was limited due to COVID, he even implemented our rabbit and piggery projects from his own funds as a gift to HEED. Thank you, Julius! We also appreciate the many teachers who have volunteered on the farm while schools have been shuttered. Our land is teeming with life and sparking hope in the community as they learn by watching.

Projects Implemented in 2020:
15 acres of raw land cleared, prepared, and made productive
3 acres of beans planted
8 acres of maize planted
3-acre banana plantation
2 acres of coffee plants
1 acre of Eucalyptus for timber
1 acre grass for feed
4 pigs 3 goats 21 rabbits with more soon
2 turkeys 2 cows 20 hens coming soon

Through the Beyond Ebenezer Scholarship Program, a program that allows selected students to go on for further studies after finishing at our high school, two of our own students have attended vocational agricultural school. They work with our farming team to implement and share their knowledge. Gideon, one of our first 17 students, hopes to pursue a bachelor's degree in agriculture. Right now, he is "giving back" to HEED through a year of service. Gideon especially loves working with the animals.

Our piglets are healthy and ready to begin reproducing!

Rabbits are a welcome source of protein and in high demand with the elderly age group

Our banana trees are less than a year old and already starting to produce fruit!
