Pathways to Transformation Update: Income Generation

Gideon, one of the first 17 HEED kids,
manages our demonstration farm

At HEED we have this philosophy:

Instead of pity…partnership
Instead of dependency…empowerment
Instead of aid…support

Our demonstration farm and vocational and empowerment programs are growing and thriving.

To empower our students and community we provide different training opportunities throughout the year. Most recently, we hosted a  training to empower 20 village members and 80 students in rabbit rearing. These trainings focused on proper butchering and marketing of rabbit meat, a new commodity in the regional market. Previously, fifteen adults and 53 children were given new earning potential at the handcrafts training given in May.

Our Saving Circle “training of trainers” will be conducted on three consecutive Saturdays as soon as churches can reopen-probably in early October. Community Managed Microfinance Circles or “Saving Circles” have proven to be one of the most effective avenues to improve livelihoods. With curriculum created by Care International, a group of trainers will launch savings groups within our 5-village service area. We have targeted the neediest families with children in our Scholarship Program. They will be given work to do on our demonstration farm to earn funds to save and invest in future business activities with skills learned on the farm. Ninety adults have already signed up to participate!

Thank you for your support of HEED which equips us to bring life-changing programs and trainings like these to empower our children and their families toward a better future.
